Now we have some specifics. Per TSN’s Bob McKenzie, the rollout will come on Feb. 20 and include 35 stats. One issue according to McKenzie — and confirmed, whatever that’s worth, by Sporting News — has been what, exactly, to call them. Are we going with Corsi, the internet-borne name for 5-on-5 shot attempts, or will it just be “5-on-5 shot attempts?” Fenwick, or unblocked 5-on-5 shot attempts?

Also from McKenzie, on April 20, the league will roll out still more tools for people interested in diving deeper down the rabbit hole. Specifically, he said, we can expect more filters and visualization tools. Rob Vollman’s usage charts and the wealth of stuff at war-on-ice.com come to mind.

But seriously, 35 stats. That’s a lot! Here’s a guess at what we could expect. (We’ll assume that, like the sites everyone currently uses, we’ll be able to filter based on how many players are on the ice and whether the game is close or tied. Whether that’d count toward the 35 number remains to be seen — if you’re counting 5-on-5 Corsi, 5-on-4 Corsi, et al, as individual stats, the 35 number gets a lot simpler.)

Corsi: A straight percentage of the shot attempts a player’s team takes while he’s on the ice.Fenwick: A straight percentage of the unblocked shot attempts a player’s team takes while he’s on the ice.Relative Corsi/Fenwick: How many shot attempts a team takes while a player is on the ice compared to the rest of his teammates.PDO: Shooting percentage + save percentage while a player is on the ice. Regresses to 100, and thus can indicate when someone is getting lucky (PDO above 100) or unlucky (PDO below 100).Quality of competition: Measuring the average caliber of a player’s competition based on Corsi, Fenwick or ice time.Offensive/neutral/defensive zone start percentage: Percentage of faceoffs in a given zone while a player is on the ice.Points/60 minutes of play (for and against)Goals/60 minutes of play (for and against)Primary assists/60 minutes of play Secondary assists/60 minutes playOn-ice save percentage: The percentage of shots goalies stop when a player is on the ice

And, of course …
