The blockbuster franchise that will see eight entries starring Cruise by the time Dead Reckoning Part II hits theaters in 2024, two years from now, has seen a slew of new cast members revealed over the past weeks and months, including character actor Shea Whigham and Peggy Carter herself, Hayley Atwell. Offerman is the latest to swell the ranks of the spy actioner.
The famously baritone actor was revealed in an army uniform and sans his classic mustache in a recent Twitter photo by Christopher McQuarrie, the writer/director responsible for the last four entries of the franchise including the two-part finale hitting in the next couple of years. The photo shows Offerman snuggled in between recent additions Henry Czerny (next seen in Scream 6) on his right and Mindhunter’s Holt McCallany on his right.
In a tweet with the hashtag, #checkmate, McQuarrie also revealed that Janet McTeer (The Woman in Black) has joined the production with the actress revealed standing next to BBC Sherlock creator (and Mycroft Holmes), Mark Gatiss. He also tosses a rec for the “Light the Fuse” podcast, episode 200, a podcast all about the Mission: Impossible franchise.
The brief clip that followed with Offerman offered these insights from the actor: “It’s really fun and fascinating. There’s a handful of very high-caliber actors that I’m getting to work with, as well as the lead guy [Tom Cruise]. Watching them all, getting to toss the ball around is incredible, getting to watch them all deal with the firehose technique is just fascinating because everyone brings a great deal of elan, and panache, and years of experience.”
In between Mission: Impossible movies, Tom Cruise has seen even more box office success with Top Gun: Maverick, which has received positive reviews and recently surpassed Avengers: Endgame’s box office total. Cruise once again worked with McQuarrie on that film, with the latter serving as writer and producer.
