After Miami Dolphins CB Xavien Howard received a restructure of his deal to keep him on the roster, Joe Haden divulged that he would also like a contract extension to retire in Pittsburgh. In an interview with The Athletic’s Mark Kaboly, Haden revealed that he wants to keep playing for as long as he remains a starter in the league. At 33 and entering his 12th season, he wants to have another contract, as 2021 is the final year of his current deal....

The rumors seem nonstop, with clubs like the 49ers, Bears and Browns bubbling as possible trade partners for the Patriots. Such is a late-February tradition in the National Football League. Garoppolo, who’s entering his fourth NFL season and the final year of his rookie contract, insists he’s able to tune out the majority of the noise — majority being the key word. Elsewhere across a jam-packed schedule, reigning Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots welcome the Dallas Cowboys, while the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers also go toe-to-toe in a heavyweight clash. It all kicks off with the Indianapolis Colts at the Houston Texans in a Thursday showdown that is sure to whet the appetite as the division lead is on the line....

The Bengals have leaned heavily on their running game in the last three weeks, allowing Hill to excel as the workhorse. In each of his last three games, Hill has surpassed the 20-carry and 100-yard plateaus....

Jerome Boger will lead the seven-man unit. Boger, a former Morehouse College quarterback, is in his 17th year as a league official and was part of the officiating team for Super Bowl 47. Rice was originally handed a two-game suspension in July under the NFL’s personal conduct policy after he was charged with assault following a Feb. 15 altercation with his then-fiancee in a casino elevator. The Baltimore running back had already served the first game of that suspension when, on Sept. 8, a video surfaced showing Rice punching Janay Palmer, now his wife, in that elevator. Within hours, the Ravens released Rice and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell extended the suspension to indefinite based on the “new evidence....

– The NHL released its schedule of home openers for the 2014-15 season on Saturday afternoon. The Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings will help begin the season with a contest against the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday, Oct. 8, as one of four games to kickoff the season. The runner-up New York Rangers will have to wait a little longer for their home opener, which will be on Sunday, Oct....

The longtime Nashville Predators assistant started the season as Florida's AHL coach before replacing Kevin Dineen on Nov. 8. "Peter worked very diligently since taking over as interim head coach in November, but at this time we feel that a fresh approach and a new direction is needed behind our bench," general manager Dale Tallon said in a team release. "We will immediately begin an extensive search for a new and experienced coach for our franchise, who will guide the Panthers to future success....

The “Two Man Advantage” contest may fill easily based on increased demand. That has an $8 entry with $40,000 prize pool. There is a $1,000 World Championship Qualifier and high stakes ($400 entry) $85,000 Penalty Kill Special with $15,000 going to first place.
