It’s a series 265 days in the making. That’s how long it has been since these two teams met in the 2020 Eastern Conference finals and when Tampa Bay won the series in six games. It’s also how long it has been since they’ve faced each other in any kind of game. And here’s the plot twist: In reality, it’s likely this would have been the Eastern Conference final pairing if things had been per usual this year....

Fact: the last time a Canadian team won the Stanley Cup was in 1993 when the Montreal Canadiens hoisted the trophy. For reference, there were only 24 teams in the NHL at that time. Three of which were named the Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques and Minnesota North Stars. Adding some salt to the wound, all three of those franchises have since won Stanley Cups following relocation. The Colorado Avalanche (formerly the Quebec Nordiques) won twice in 1996 and 2001....

NHL trades in August are a rare occurrence, especially those involving a noteworthy player. The Hurricanes shipping three-time 30-goal scorer Jeff Skinner to the Sabres last week certainly caught most observers off guard. The Skinner trade was the latest move by the Hurricanes’ new management in their ongoing roster shakeup. Jonas will make his grand debut on the NBC music competition when it premieres on Monday. Replacing previous coach Gwen Stefani, he’ll be taking a seat in a red swivel-chair next to coaches John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton, all of whom already have quite the reputation for competitive banter. Fans shouldn’t be too worried about Jonas fitting in with his older, experienced counterparts, though. The Dolphins ganged up on Jonathan Martin. And if that’s how they play it in Roger Goodell’s league, then his league has hit rock bottom. The culture that the commissioner wants to change, mainly through changes in player conduct on and off the field, is much worse and more deeply ingrained than anybody imagined. The NFL is the most popular sport in this country, but it’s out of control. If Goodell doesn’t want America to think he likes it that way, he’ll put a stop to it....
