In the case of Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, the 10-day window for his appeal ends Wednesday, but the NFL has not yet set a date to hear Brady’s appeal and will not hold the hearing before then, according to The Associated Press. When punishments were and weren’t handed out this week, there were opinions all around the NFL about how the league chose to handle the situation. Browns defensive back Ronnie Harrison was fined $12,128 for his part in the altercation with Greg Lewis....

Some teams even disclose the injuries. Atlantic Division Boston Bruins Not much to see here. David Pastrnak is back and forth with a bruised shoulder, Marc Savard still has a concussion (and I has a sad), and Gregory Campbell is out with a middle-body injury. Points to the B’s for the use of the term “middle body injury,” which certainly narrows it down more than usual. Somewhere between the testicles and collarbones....

Some of the big names that were set to be free agents this summer are already off the board. Filip Forsberg re-signed with the Predators on an eight-year deal; Ville Husso was traded to the Red Wings and inked a three-year deal; and Bryan Rust and Kris Letang both received new deals with the Penguins. There are still a few big names out there that are most certainly going to be testing the free agency waters....

Blue Jackets free agents Sergei Bobrovsky and Artemi Panarin are meeting with Florida on Monday, according to TSN. The team is prioritizing a goalie this offseason, but they’ll take both players if they can get them. Florida’s goaltending situation is up in the air next year as Roberto Luongo is contemplating retirement, but even if he wasn’t, the Panthers would be going after Bobrovsky. The Blue Jackets’ goalie has wanted out of Columbus for a while, but that hasn’t kept him from producing as he has won the Vezina Trophy twice and been in the running several other times....

Based on the NHL’s final regular-season standings, the Sabres have the best chance (18.5 percent to be exact) to earn the privilege of selecting first overall. Many believe that pick will be Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, who’s been dubbed a “generational” talent ready to step in and contribute to an NHL roster immediately. What will happen next with the remaining 30 teams, however, is a big mystery that tight-lipped league executives want to keep unsolved for the next two months....

This is the first playoff meeting between the cross-state rivals since 2012. A lot has changed since that series, remembered fondly in Philadelphia as that one time Pittsburghers actually disliked Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury is now off in Vegas making magic with the Golden Knights. In fact, only three Penguins who played in that series remain on the roster. They’ve got a pair of championships in their pockets now, while the Flyers are making just their third postseason appearance in the six years since....

The Calgary Flames are down 3-1 to the Colorado Avalanche in the first round after Colorado’s Mikko Rantanen drilled the game-tying goal in the third period and the game-winning goal in overtime to complete a three-goal comeback and secure a 3-2 victory. The Flames took a 2-0 lead seven minutes into the final period and seemed poised to tie the series on the strength of goaltender Mike Smith’s play. Smith stopped 49 shots, but 50 turned out to be the magic number for a victory as the Avalanche put two shots past him in the ensuing 10 minutes to force overtime....

When the Lightning jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first period of the series lid-lifter, jokes of “Tampa in one” appeared on Twitter. But to their credit, the Blue Jackets never wavered. John Tortorella’s club continued to chip away until finally taking a 4-3 lead late in the game on a Seth Jones blast. The Lightning never got their mojo back from that moment on. Employing a heavy forecheck and playing the trap to a tee, Columbus appeared to shut down the league’s top team with surprisingly relative ease — culminating in a four-game sweep over the Stanley Cup favorite — something no one could’ve predicted nor has ever been seen before....

Over two weeks later, the Wings picked up winger Brendan Perlini from the Chicago Blackhawks. Others, such as the San Jose Sharks and New Jersey Devils, were expected to be top playoff contenders this season; however, their lousy records in the early going threaten to scuttle their playoff hopes....
